The paper is a review of directional drilling undertaken by Sohio Petroleum Co. in the western half of the Prudhoe Bay Field on the Arctic North Slope of Alaska. The first three sections cover well planning and include such topics as the necessity for directional wells, government restrictions and regulations, target and geological limitations Author: Peter J. Murray, Neil R. Booth. U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report Alaskan North Slope Petroleum Systems By L.B. Magoon, P.G. Lillis, K.J. Bird, C. Lampe, and K.E. Peters Abstract Six North Slope petroleum systems are identified, described, and mapped using oil-to-oil and oil-to-source rock correlations, pods of active source rock, and overburden rock packages. A 52 well heavy oil field development targeting shallow (3,, ft TVD) sands on the north slope of Alaska was initiated in Horizontal wells of 11, to 13, ft MD were drilled early in the program. These initial wells served as "data-gathering and technology-proving" opportunities leading up to the event ft MD by: 3. The wells were drilled using the Nabors Alaska E drilling rig, which was upgraded for the project, with an investment of $35m. The project’s central processing facility (CPF), is located on the central pad, and is powered by natural gas produced from the field, while diesel stored in four storage tanks is used as a back-up fuel primarily. Alaska's North Slope was opened to petroleum development after the oil discovery at Prudhoe Bay. With development came a substantial demand for construction gravel for exploration and development pads, roads, and general infrastructure. In the early s, most gravel needs were met by shallow scrapes within river floodplains. Our borough encompasses an area of nea square miles across northern Alaska and includes some of the most spectacular landscapes found in North America. On this website, you can access information about the services we provide along with important upcoming community events and the proceedings of the North Slope Borough Assembly.
