The Ames test is a widely employed method that uses bacteria to test whether a given chemical can cause mutations in the DNA of the test organism. More formally, it is a biological assay to assess the mutagenic potential of chemical compounds. A positive test indicates that the chemical is mutagenic and therefore may act as a carcinogen, because cancer is often linked to mutation. / AMES Ketostix Reagent Test Strip ( count) Image shown for reference purposes only. The Ames II Salmonella mutagenicity assay procedure was used to test 71 chemicals, and the results were compared with those from the traditional Ames Salmonella test using the NTP database as the reference. All Ames II tests were performed using a fluctuation procedure in microplate format, using TAMix for the detection of base pair substitutions and TA98 to detect frameshift mutations.

The Muta-ChromoPlate TM kit is based on the most generally used and obacterial reverse-mutation test, known as the 'Ames Test' (Ames et al., , Mutation Research ). The test employs a mutant strain, or several strains, of Salmonella typhimurium, carrying mutation (s) in the operon coding for histidine biosynthesis.   Abstract. The Salmonella/microsome bacterial mutagenicity test (Ames test) is used worldwide as a simple and rapid mutagenicity testing l modified versions of the Ames test have been developed, subsequent to the original “plate incorporation assay” using the Salmonella bacterial tester strains, and rat liver homogenate fraction (S9) for generating reactive metabolites of test. The American Chemical Society (ACS) Committee on Analytical Reagents sets the specifications for most chemicals used in analytical testing. Currently, the ACS is the only organization in the world that sets requirements and develops validated methods for determining the purity of reagent s: 7. The Clinistix ® (Ames Co.) is an enzymatic glucose test based on the activity of the enzyme glucose oxidase that uses dry-reagent chemical technology. A firm plastic strip, to which a stiff absorbent cellulose area is affixed, is impregnated with a buffered mixture of glucose oxidase, peroxidase, and o -tolidine.
